New Nevada State Veterans Memorial To Open With Veterans Day Ceremony

Wednesday, Nov. 4, 2026 | FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE New Nevada State Veterans Memorial To Open With Veterans Day Ceremony Ceremony Scheduled To Begin At 4:30 p.m. Las Vegas Mayor Shelley Berkley, Ward 4 Councilwoman Francis Allen-Palenske and State officials will be joined by local veterans for the opening of the new home of the Nevada State Veterans Memorial at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 11. The memorial is located at the northwest end of the Thunderbird Family Sports Complex, 6105 N. Durango Drive. The event will include the presentation of the colors by the Joint Armed Forces Color Guard and a flyover is scheduled courtesy of Nellis Air Force Base. The memorial is a partnership of the State of Nevada, the city of Las Vegas and the Mayor’s Fund for Las Vegas LIFE, an independent 501 (c)(3) nonprofit that supports city initiatives. The memorial features 18 larger-than-life bronze statues by sculptor Douwe Blumberg that were relocated from outside the former Grant Sawyer state building to their new permanent location in the northwest region of the city of Las Vegas. The statues, which each stand an impressive 7.5 feet tall, were originally commissioned by the state in 2011 to honor American military service from the Revolutionary War through present day. The event will be broadcast live on city of Las Vegas TV, and on the city of Las Vegas TV YouTube channel. Along with the memorial, the project includes a beautiful open-air promenade, complete with landscaping, an amphitheater and informational signage. This project establishes a permanent home for these magnificent sculptures that honors Nevada’s 200,000-plus veterans in a dedicated place of healing, inspiration and education. The program supports the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development’s (HUD) goal of assisting older adults with needed upgrades so that they may remain in their homes. Potential low-barrier home modifications may include: Bathroom Safety – grab bars, comfort-height toilets, tub cuts and handheld showerheads Mobility Supports – temporary ramps and handrails Kitchen Accessibility – D-shaped cabinet handles and accessible faucets Flooring and Transitions – Removal of tripping hazards and uneven surfaces The program allows resident homeowners to receive up to $5,000 in financial assistance for modifications. There are several qualifications: The home must be located within the city of Las Vegas jurisdiction. The household’s annual income must be less than 80% of the area median income (currently capped at $76,150 for household of four or $53,350 for single occupant). The home must be the primary residence of the homeowner. The resident must be at least 62 years old. Funding for the program is provided through a grant from HUD. Wednesday, Oct. 14, 2026 | FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE City Of Las Vegas Offers Lead Paint Remediation And Drip Repair Programs Programs To Assist Qualifying Homeowners With Lead Paint Removal Or Water Leak Repairs The city of Las Vegas and the Las Vegas Valley Water District are collaborating to offer the Drip Repair & Intervention Program to qualifying resident homeowners to assist with remediation of active water leaks at residential homes, until grant funds are depleted. Homeowners may receive up to $7,500 in financial assistance for repairs. There are several qualifications: The home must be located within the city of Las Vegas jurisdiction. The household’s annual income must be less than 80% of the area median income (currently capped at $76,150 for household of four or $53,350 for single occupant). The home must be the primary residence of the homeowner. Funding must be used to repair water leaks at the home, including leaks from the on-site service line that connects homes to water meters. Funding for the $500,000 program is provided by the Las Vegas Valley Water District through the Excessive Use Charge paid by the utility’s highest water users. The homeowner and city Neighborhood Services staff together obtain three repair estimates and choose a licensed, registered contractor to complete the repairs. Free Lead Paint Remediation Program For Qualifying Las Vegas Residents Lead Is A Serious Health Hazard, Especially To Small Children The city of Las Vegas is offering lead-hazard assessments and remediation in older homes to improve health and safety for residents with small children. The city was awarded a 48-month grant by the Office of Lead Hazard Control and Healthy Homes to help develop cost-effective ways to reduce lead-based paint hazards. The goal of this program is to create lead-safe and healthy housing in Las Vegas and reduce the incidence of childhood lead poisoning. This program is free to eligible households. Homeowners and/or property owners must qualify to participate and be located within city of Las Vegas limits. Requirements for homeowners include: Property was built prior to 1978; Household has a child under the age of 6 years old who resides or frequently visits; and Household meets Department of Housing and Urban Development income guidelines. Thursday Oct. 8, 2026 | FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE City Of Las Vegas Offers Temporary Option For Paying Qualifying Parking Tickets Pay Tickets Issued Oct. 1-Nov. 13 With New Toys The city of Las Vegas will allow qualifying parking tickets issued between Oct. 1, 2026, and Nov. 13, 2026, to be paid with donations of toys. Any toys taken in by the city through the program will be donated to Chicanos Por La Causa, a nonprofit corporation that assists homeless families to obtain permanent housing. Toys will be collected through Dec. 14, 2026, at the city of Las Vegas Parking Services Office, located at 350 S. City Parkway in Las Vegas, open Monday-Friday, 7:30 a.m.-5:15 p.m. Those who have a parking infraction in the city of Las Vegas between Oct. 1 and Nov. 13, 2026, may satisfy their tickets by bringing new, unwrapped toy(s) of equal or greater value than their fine to the Parking Services Offices at 350 S. City Parkway within 30 days of their citation date. A purchase receipt for the donation is required. In addition, those with tickets may purchase toy(s) online and have them delivered to the Parking Services Office with their citation number in the notes section of the delivery. In July of 2016, the City Council adopted an ordinance authorizing the establishment of this occasional program allowing for charitable donations in lieu of payment for parking fines as amended Feb. 1, 2023, allowing the program to be administratively approved by the City Manager. Disability Awareness Day Free Celebration Oct. 10 At Lorenzi Park

At Lorenzi Park Representatives From Many Organizations Will Offer Information & Assistance Gather friends and family for the 35th annual Disability Awareness Day event at Sammy Davis Jr. Festival Plaza in Lorenzi Park, 720 Twin Lakes Drive. The 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. event is free to the public and will feature live entertainment, door prizes, free limited parking and plenty of information and contacts. A free lunch also will be provided to the first 250 participants, and prizes will be awarded for the best Halloween costumes. October is National Disability Awareness Month. Representatives from more than 30 organizations serving the disabled community will be present to help attendees with employment, independent living, recreational activities, financial planning, legal services, benefits counseling, adaptive equipment, transportation, housing and more. There will be opportunities to meet elected officials. American Sign Language interpreters will be available. Oct. 16 Nominations open today for the 2027 African American Trailblazer Service Awards. The awards will honor residents of the Las Vegas valley who have made outstanding civic accomplishments and significant contributions to the Las Vegas community in the following categories: Business and Economic Advancement Award – This award recognizes local business professionals who have displayed entrepreneurial character, high standards, innovative professional practice, and a committed support of their local community. Community Activism and Politics Award – This award recognizes an individual who has demonstrated, through his or her achievements, the ability to advocate, organize and engage citizens, and inform public policy on issues that improve the quality of life for the community. Educator Award – This award honors those who, as a teacher, instructor or school administrator, have demonstrated excellence in mentoring, guiding and preparing students to achieve their full potential. Tyrone Thompson Emerging Leader Award – This award celebrates an up-and-coming individual who demonstrates a commitment to leadership and substantial potential for innovation, creativity, vision and positive influence. Spiritual Community Award – This award will be presented to a spiritual leader who has transcended organizational boundaries to promote spiritual and religious growth, partnership and engagement through inspired action and visionary leadership. NEW Arts & Culture Award – This award will recognize arts professionals, artists, media, photography and cultural leaders who demonstrate artistic excellence, creativity, innovation and leadership. City Of Las Vegas Neighborhood Partners Fund Program Offers Matching Grants To Neighborhood Associations

Monday, Sept. 28, 2026 | FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE City Of Las Vegas Neighborhood Partners Fund Program Offers Matching Grants To Neighborhood Associations Applicants Can Attend One Of Three Grant Workshops Scheduled The annual Neighborhood Partners Fund (NPF) grant application process is beginning, offering registered city of Las Vegas neighborhood associations the opportunity to apply for a maximum of $10,000 to help improve the quality of their neighborhoods. There is $100,000 available for neighborhood grants this year. The NPF, a real “do-it-yourself” program for neighborhoods, allows the city to support resident creativity, empowerment and responsibility. Applications open Monday, Oct. 12, 2026. Completion of the pre-application is required. The pre-application deadline is Monday, Nov. 9, 2026, at 11:59 p.m. Once the pre-application is approved, associations have until Thursday, Jan. 4, 2027, to submit the full application. Community gardens, senior citizen safety programs, murals or other proposals related to community improvement are types of neighborhood improvement projects that may qualify under this grant. The program requires neighborhood associations match the city’s grant with cash, volunteer time, or in-kind services and goods donated to the project. Projects are required to take place within city limits and neighborhood boundaries as well as include direct resident involvement in all phases of the projects. Applicants are required to attend one of three workshops scheduled to learn about the program and the automated method of applying for the grant. Applicants will use ZoomGrants to submit their applications, starting Oct. 12, 2026. No paper applications will be accepted. Detailed NPF grant requirements are available under “Neighborhood Partners Fund” on the city website at www.lasvegasnevada.gov/associations. After the submission deadline, applications will be reviewed for basic requirements and eligibility. The applications will be further evaluated by the NPF Board, whose members are appointed by the City Council. All applicants will be required to make a five-minute presentation of their projects to the NPF Board and respond to questions. Funding recommendations from the NPF Board on these projects will be presented to the City Council for final approval at a May 2027 Las Vegas City Council meeting.
